Every season, thousands of tourists from around the world travel to Singapore to see Marina Bay Sands. But few know that this masterpiece was made possible by MAURER's precision engineering.
Situated 200 metres above ground, SkyPark spans across three hotel towers with a breathtaking garden, a 150-metre infinity pool, and a 360° panoramic view. This architectural masterpiece would have been impossible without MAURER MSM® spherical bearings and tuned mass dampers.
MAURER Technical Solutions
17 MSM® spherical bearings allow SkyPark to move ±1 metre, compensating for wind-induced oscillations and thermal expansion of the three towers. This is a critical function: the Marina Bay Sands towers are not rigid structures and move independently under wind and temperature effects.
±1 metre of allowable displacement for a platform weighing thousands of tonnes — an engineering feat embodied in MAURER MSM® bearings.
Tuned Mass Damper on the Cantilevered Edge
A 5-tonne tuned mass damper reduces vibrations on the 65-metre cantilevered edge of the platform, ensuring visitor comfort and safety. Without this device, the cantilever would experience significant oscillations under wind loading.
- 17 MSM® spherical bearings — ±1 metre displacement
- 5-tonne tuned mass damper — vibration reduction on the 65-metre cantilever
- Special installation methods — saving weeks of construction time
- Guaranteed service life — at least 50 years
This project remains a milestone in engineering: high-performance MSM® materials guarantee a service life of at least 50 years even under extreme loads, temperatures, and displacements. MAURER is proud that German innovation plays a key role in such a global landmark.
